More planning and researching

Due to not being able to film for another week because of group arranging problems Tim Rach and I suggested that we started making progress on other tasks so that we could have more time to film and edit instead of waiting for out filming to be complete. This was an opportunity to improve our time issues. This then stopped up from rushing our work towards the end of the deadline.

I have chosen to produce a listings magazine front cover featuring the new soap and a poster for the new soap.
To produce a professional advertisement I will research into many different soap advertisements and note down key characteristics that they all have and similarities that link them into being a drama.
From taking other courses such as Graphic Design and photography I have an advantage to producing a more professional outcome. These skills I will share with my members of my group.

Here are some Radio Times covers and other TV listings covers that advertise drama series.

We as a group looked at radio times and chose these front covers in particular as they are popular programs that attract different audiences from people into sport, Families, Adults, Teenagers and young adults. There is also a different numbers of main characters on the covers, some have one others three and even four.
There is commonly either one character or three.

In all of the Radio Times covers the main characters cover some part of the title 'Radio Times' Which shows that they are more important then the title of the magazine otherwise the title would be on top.

Having this technique shows how important and serious the drama is that week and it’s a key selling point to market the magazine when its competing with other dramas.

Costumes

For the filming we have planned for the on coming half term we are planning our costumes for each character. For our soap opera it is important that the clothes that the characters wears the audience can tell what sort of person they are including their class, weather, social ground, personality and background. Watching programs these days we always analyse the clothes they wear and we always make a link to what sort of person they are. We are going to try and show this in our drama.

Script for when Alice arrives at rachels for pre drinks

All out script have been planned and written. This is the script for the conversation when Alice arrives at Rachel's house for pre drinks before they go to Tims. They discuss issues that happened at Johnny's party the week before when Alice realises shes pregnant.

-Door opens: R: Heyaaaaa
A: Heya – you alright?
R: Yeah Hun I’m good come on in – you okay?
A: I’m fine thanks.
Alice follows Rachel into the kitchen.
R: I like your (N/A)
A: Thanks – It was only a tenner.
R: Fair enough, you want a drink?
A: Yes please.
Rachel moves around the kitchen organizing drinks.
R: WKD alright?
A: (Walks across and sits on sofa) Yeah that’s fine thanks.
R: (Sits down next to Alice on sofa) gutted I missed Jonny’s last week, was it any good?
A: (Typical Alice reaction) It was good, a lot going on there I was so pissed!
R: Sounds well good did you get with anyone?
A: Kind of.
R: What you mean?
A: I slept with this lad…
R: Well…what did he look like?
A: From what I can remember he was (Describe character)
R: Oh right do’you wanna see him again?
A: (Gets up and walks across room) I might have to.
R: (Looks across) Your not pregnant are you?
A: (Turns round facing camera) I think so.

This will be recorded on normal video sound unlike our phone conversation that is recorded in the radio room which is of much better quality.

Voice Phone Call

Over the half term we planned our phone call which is going to go at the beginning of our soap opera.
On our first lesson back after half term we booked the radio room to recorded our phone call to a professional standard. This was free on Monday 1st of November which we completed the voice call.

The script of the phone call is;

R: Hey babes
A: Heya, You alright?
R: yeah im good hun how're you ?
A: im good thankyou, have you been up to much ?
R: watched the lads play football, chilled out but i had to work which is a bummer.
A: yeah i know what you mean hun i had to work to. Anyway you coming out later up Tim's, be a good laugh i think.
R: yeah im still going - wanna come round mine before hand for a few pre drinks.
A: yeah that'd be good babe, have a catch up.

This is now saved on our data ready for when editing and making our soap opera.

An issue over the half term

Unfortunately over the half term we didn’t have a video camera to record our planned scenes. This led us to cancelling our dates of filming that we had planned and to re-schedule them for as soon as possible. This obviously held us back up and now could make us behind in the practical work. However using this extra time of planning to our advantage we discussed further developments that we was produce and make our final locations in where to film exact. Tim Drove around Salisbury to make these decisions final and to see if any other locations would work better than the original ones we had.
Also to use this time up, we decided on little detail such as costume design for all 3 actors, locations and times of the day for each scene.

Development so far

Taking all our research into conclusion, we have decided on what types of scenes we are going to included in our chosen, 'TV soap opera'.
Theses are:

Scene 1 ( Rachel and Alice)
black screen with titles and a voice over of a phone conversation between 2 girls.
Alice comes over to Rachel's go to the kitchen to get food and drink.
Alice leaves her drink and then tells Rachel she thinks shes pregnant.
Thinks it happened at Tim's party, flash of what the party was like.

Scene 2 (Tim)
Tim's phone starts to ring, Tim answers it and then decided to get up and get ready.
Grabs his clothes and then the sound of the shower going.
See Tim walking down the road and down the steps.
cuts to tim walking to the ATM machine gets money out, Alice comes into view as they both finish they make small talk before Alice walks off and Tim makes a phonecall.
Tim meets a mate at the underpass and collects a bag from him, mate walks off.
Tim checks the bag and is outraged when its the wrong substance.

Scene 3 (football)
shots of football, college team and then shots of tim and freinds having a kick about.
Headers, passes and genral banter and and jokes. Tim then takes the piss out of alice and how much of a state she was last night. Scrot gets up tight and shirty with Tim and eventually pushes Tim.
Tim says "why you so up-tight about it" scrot gets embarrassed and worried, he then admits that he has a soft spot for alice and that there is some shit going on in her life and to leave it out.

Scene 4 (Fight scene)
The lads and Girls have meet up and decided to go for a few drinks, There is tension between the groups which finally rises to the surface and the group divides, The fight is taken outside to the underpass. Shoved up against the wall, shout coming from the group warning that the police could come. Taller one goes to punch the one against the wall and gives up saying something along the lines of “Am fed up of you, all the shit you cause, am sick and tired of looking after you and covering your back. You never listen, grow up, look around you, by being a prick you’re losing everyone.”

Scene 5 (finishing off)
Rachel and Alice walk off and get a kebab and start walking home discussing the events that have happened recently, everything and anything.
Walk past zoo park and see Tim’s car “hey isn’t that Tim’s car?”
Meet the lads hugs and smiles share the chips round.
Scrot emerges from the bushes after having a slash, he looks up and smiles at Alice, Alice looks up and half smiles before looking down at her belly.

Characters:
Tim
Alice
Rachel

Its the 22/10/10 which is the last day of term so we have organised our film dates over the half term. On Tuesday Tim is picking me up and taking me to Salisbury to do our first shots of films. It was easier for me to go to Salisbury as Tim and Rachel both live there. Rachel is meeting us as soon as we arrive and we plan to head of to our first destination with our needed actors.
